Acclaimed pop/jazz vocalist Barbara Fasano comes home to Birdland! A storyteller in song in the tradition of Carmen McRae, Sylvia Syms and Julie Wilson, Ms. Fasano explores the complexities of love and the circles we all swirl within, singing “wise, literate songs about life in all its confusing wonder,” as author James Gavin writes. “She seems incapable of singing an unintelligent or unmusical phrase.” Winner of multiple MAC, Bistro and NY Nightlife Awards, her last two CDs, “Busy Being Free” and “Written In The Stars,” were praised in publications as diverse as Playbill and JazzTimes and won MAC Awards for Record of the Year.

With the Unusual Suspects Sean Harkness’s electric guitar becomes the voice. Long before Harkness made his commercial debut on the legacy Acoustic New Age label Windham Hill Records [Sony/RCA/BMG], and even longer before he became the go-to guitarist for vocalists from Broadway, film, and TV – Sean played electric guitar in Rock & Roll bands. And Blues, Dance Rock, Funk, R&B, Reggae, Hippy-Rock, Southern Rock, and Country Rock bands. There was even a stint as a bassist in a Heavy Metal band…but that’s another story. Randy Newman, as a songwriter, is an impassioned social realist in the same vein as (or school of) Yip Harburg mixed with Lorenz Hart… Someone who recognizes the power of songs, with lyrics that can remind us of injustice, the sting of loss and how unkind people can be… And yet in that salad of cruelty Newman tosses large amounts of love, joy and delicious humor.
