“KT Sullivan is as vocally, comically and theatrically assured as contemporary performers get.” – The New Yorker
Steve Ross is “the suavest of all male cabaret performers.” – The New York Times
Get to know the life and times of one of the 20th century’s most dynamic creative icons – Noël Coward – through this intimate performance in which Steve Ross and KT Sullivan transform into some of the many characters that made up Coward’s unique life…Gertrude Lawrence, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Elaine Stritch, Lynn Fontanne, Virginia Woolf, Edna Ferber, the Queen Mother, and, of course, The Master himself, Noël Coward.
Through Coward’s songs, stories, and personal letters, cabaret legends Steve Ross and KT Sullivan will summon up timeless memories of an era that may be gone, but is never to be forgotten.

Willy Falk: Mostly Love
August 10th, 2019
Willy Falk: Mostly Love revels in richly-crafted interpretations of songs about love, coupled with stories from a thirty-five-year career on Broadway. He moved to New York and burst on the Broadway scene in Marilyn: An American Fable, a musical which attained cult-like status as one of the greatest flops of all time, but saw Willy receiving a standing ovation every night for his solo number: “You Are So Beyond.”
When Miss Saigon first came to Broadway, he was chosen to play leading man “Chris,” receiving a Tony award nomination alongside Jonathan Pryce and Lea Salonga. His career spans seven Broadway shows and dozens of tours and region productions.
Known for his powerful performances in musicals and concerts through the years, this evening speaks of music, memories, and laughter, but mostly…love.

Secret Love: The Life and Music of Doris Day
Tuesday, August 13
7pm & 9:45pm
Birdland Theater is proud to present Karen Oberlin in “Secret Love: The Life and Music of Doris Day” on Tuesday, August 13, with shows at 7 and 9:45pm.
The New York Times praised Karen Oberlin and her celebrated tribute to Doris Day as a “widely admired” hit that showcases Oberlin as “an inheritor of Doris Day’s impeccable pop style.” In the words of the Times, Oberlin’s “beautifully shaped readings are ones that Ms. Day in her prime might well have envied.” Over the years, she has performed this multiple award-winning show far and wide, from Doris Day’s longtime home base, Carmel by the Sea – as a featured presentation of Day’s official birthday celebration – to New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Nebraska, Provincetown, Boca Raton and Palm Beach, among others. She’s thrilled to bring it back to Birdland, now with a deeper-than-ever devotion to keeping Day’s legacy alive. In this illuminating and deeply entertaining show, Ms. Oberlin will perform songs such as “Sentimental Journey,” “Que Sera Sera” and “It’s Magic,” as well as rare gems that Ms. Oberlin has unearthed in her research. Ms. Oberlin delves deeply into the intriguing life and music of this fascinating and important cultural phenomenon from having a baby as a teenager, touring with a big band, her tumultuous marriages, and becoming the highest paid woman in Hollywood history, all while recording sensational songs. Ms. Oberlin has been the recipient of the major cabaret awards in New York, and an Honorary Doctorate in Music for her performance work. She is a recording artist with four CD’s, including “Secret Love: The Music of Doris Day,” and although she doesn’t imitate Ms. Day, Oberlin has often been compared to her in her work as a vocalist, and couldn’t be happier. As Oberlin says, “Doris Day is one of our greatest artists, and although she is truly American, like apple pie and jazz, she reaches the hearts and minds of people all over the world.”
“You have a beautiful sound and tone so I am very flattered that you have enjoyed my work. You brought me to tears.”
– DORIS DAY
“Oberlin’s refreshing approach presents tunes as lusciously lyrical tales told for the very first time.” — David Murphy, TIME OUT NEW YORK

KT Sullivan & Steve Ross LOVE, NOEL THE SONGS AND LETTERS OF NOEL COWARD
This is the New York Premiere of Love, Noël: The Letters and Songs of Noël Coward, an original entertainment devised by Barry Day. A previous version of the play was published by Samuel French in 2016 and premiered at The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles, CA in February 2014. Cole Porter did most of his writing late at night. Join us on August 25th at 5:30 as we welcome Carole J. Bufford back to the Stage!
“It turns out that the great Sophie Tucker was not, in fact, the last of the Red Hot Mamas. That title now can be claimed by the young Ms. Carole Bufford.” -The Wall Street Journal
Carole has become one of the most sought after young performers on the American jazz and cabaret scene. She recently enjoyed a highly praised 10 month solo run at New York’s Birdland Jazz Club and a monthly residency at Feinstein’s/54 Below and is currently touring around the US. Her shows, speak easy. (featuring the Grammy Award-winning Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks), Come Together, and You Don’t Own Me earned her rave reviews from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Times (UK). She was featured in Michael Feinstein’s American Songbook series at Jazz at Lincoln Center as well as numerous Pops performances with orchestras across the country. Bufford is the recipient of the Nightlife, Bistro, and BroadwayWorld Awards for Outstanding Vocalist, www.carolejbufford.com
“The real thing: you know it when you see it…The way her voice, with its blues inflections, cut a swath, leaving nothing standing, tempts me to describe her with groveling hyperbole as an earthier, more acerbic 21st-century Barbra Streisand.” – The New York Times

Sean Harkness & The Unusual Suspects ~Instrumental Jams on Classic Rock/Pop~
7-9p Thursday, August 29 Headroom Bar & Social 150 Bay Street, Jersey City [very close to PATH!] $10 door Two-drink minimum
Sean Harkness [elec. gtr] – Etienne Stadwijk [org] John Lenis [bs] – Yutaka Uchida [dr] We are improvising on songs that we grew up with. Songs we love and that had strong impressions on us as kids. We play Great American Songbook classics and standard pop repertoire all the time – in other places. Somewhere between Jam-Band and Jeff Beck or John McLaughlin, Harkness picks up an electric guitar, kicks on some fun pedals, and fronts a very strong and colorful rhythm section. With new arrangements at every show, you’ll hear songs by: The Beatles * Mr. Mister * The Cars * The Carpenters * Supertramp * Gary Wright * 10cc * Grateful Dead * Jackson 5 * Joe Jackson * Willy Wonka * The Eagles * The Doors * Little River Band * Thomas Dolby * Level 42 * The * Zombies * Foreigner * The Who, and many more…
A short walk from Grove Street PATH Station, this new venue is top shelf – where musicians pop in on the way home from their gigs to see their friends. The acoustics are great, equipment top notch, staff friendly, and the vibe just right. The perfect home for us to open up these new arrangements – fresh ones every show!
